Your homework for today is to comment on this post with one of the responses you have put on your table linking Mrs Deverill to the supernatural genre.

Mrs Deverill
was a small woman, at least fifty years
old, with white hair, cut short. Her skin was not yet withered but it was
strangely lifeless. She had hard, ice cold eyes and cheek bones that formed two
slashes across her face. It was hard to imagine her pale lips ever smiling. She
was smartly dressed in a grey skirt and matching jacket with a shirt buttoned
to her neck. She wore a silver necklace and, on her lapel, a silver brooch
shaped like a lizard.

In the book it says she breathed heavily when they passed Will Scott's dead body this could be suggesting that she had murdered him. She could be evil!

ReplyDeleteThis suggests that she is cold, youthful but old (face not clothes). Maybe a witch.
Also, she was wearing a lizard brooch , which rhymes with WIZARD and lizard's are cold-blooded creatures. In humans cold-blooded suggests evil/bad.

pg 38: The oxyacelylene torches flashed snd flickered behind her. Suggests a kind of pathetic valacy and to be able to 'control the sene' also pg 42: Greater Malling and nobodys heard of that either. Suggests she lives somewere nobodys heard of like a mysterious character mabe a witch or the devil.

page 46 "In Yorkshire I'll expect you to eat what your given , we don't waste things in my house" Might mean She gives him horrible food and expects him to eat it or they make their guests fat and then eat them because they are Vampires.
